Surprisingly modest car used by James Bond star so he could park in millionaire’s playground could be yours for £7,000

SIR Roger Moore’s Smart car will go under the hammer next month – and could be yours for £7,000.

The James Bond star clocked up nearly 2,000 miles zipping around Monaco in the dinky motor between 2012 and 2017.

It would have been a squeeze for the 6ft 1ins tall actor as the Fortwo City Car is just 9ft long and 5ft tall.

The “low key” two-seater was in stark contrast to the supercars owned by Sir Roger’s neighbour’s in Monte Carlo.

It is also a far cry from the famous Lotus Esprit amphibious car Moore drove in the 1977 Bond classic The Spy Who Love Me.

Moore, amused by his contradiction, reportedly told his children: “The bigger the star, the smaller the car!”

The 2012 model is made by Swiss watchmakers SMH and has a rear-mounted petrol engine.

The three-door has a top speed of 95mph and goes 0-60mph in 10 seconds.

It is being auctioned from the Roger Moore estate by Bonhams Cars.

A spokesperson said: “Its owner from new, Sir Roger Moore loved using his Smart as it was so low key, while its small size meant that he could often park it between two other cars.

“Sir Roger used the Smart for shopping, visiting restaurants, etc as it was easy to park in Monaco.

“Kept at his home in the South of France, the Smart has seen little use in recent years and has covered only circa 3,000 kilometres from new.”

Moore, who died aged 89 in 2017, starred in seven Bond films between 1973 and 1985.

He also starred in TV shows The Saint and The Persuaders.

The car goes under the hammer on May 10 in Monaco with an estimate of £6,900.

A limited edition Lamborghini Islero S driven by Sir Roger in the 1970 film The Man Who Haunted Himself sold for £296,800 in 2020.
