Earlier today, we got a pretty good look at the upcoming Pixel 9. Although we were certain of Google’s plan with the new phone, it appears that the company has something else in mind for this year. Google and Samsung have been working closely for some time—that is what we all know. The one thing that we did not know is that Google could end up taking a page out of Samsung’s book, as this year, we could also get a Pixel 9 Pro XL.

So, with the addition of a new model, what will the lineup look like? Well, we are expecting a Pixel 9, a Pro, and Pro XL variants. As for why Google is doing that, it is safe to say that this will give the company more chances to ensure that all the devices are different from each other.
Although this might sound like a good thing for some people, it does raise a concern. With the launch of the Pixel 8 series, Google made some camera features exclusive to the Pro variant despite both phones sharing the same hardware. I just hope that with the launch of the Pixel 9 series, Google does not go ahead with the same routine because that will go against the idea of delivering something people are interested in.
We have also learned that the standard Pixel 9 and the Pro variant will have identical dimensions. This means that the Pro XL will be a larger variant. I hope that Google is not looking to introduce more hardware differences aside from a larger screen and a bigger battery because that will really take away from the consistent experience that the Pixel phones are looking forward to providing.
If Google wants to make sure that it remains a favorite among the die-hard Android community, it will have to ensure that all Pixel 9 variants are getting the same love and there are no inconsistencies because that will reflect poorly on the company as a whole.
Not much is known about the mysterious Pixel 9 Pro XL, but considering how Google I/O 2024 will be happening soon, we might learn a lot more about the new phones. The launch will happen later this year, sometime in October, and we will keep you posted about everything. I am really looking forward to the next Pixels on multiple fronts, including Tensor G4, more AI goodness, and better cameras than before.
