The car, a 1991 Honda NSX, is one of the best loved sports car models of all time.

Originally produced from 1991 to 2005, it was designed by the revered coachbuilder Pininfarina.

Indeed, it was so popular that Honda actually brought it back between 2017 and 2023.

And Gordon Murray, who himself designed F1 cars for McLaren, described it as “monumental” in its influence, even admitting he had taken inspiration from it when working in motorsport.

However, this particular NSX has a much deeper link to the track.

The bright red sportster was famously owned by racing great Ayrton Senna.

The Brazillian was regularly photographed with the car and it even featured in Racing is in my Blood, the 1992 film about his life.

Tragically, Senna died of his injuries after crashing during the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix, aged just 34.

He is remembered as one of the greatest figures in the sport, winning three world championships between 1988 and 1991.

This leaves him in good company as one of just ten men ever to win three or more titles, alongside the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Sir Jackie Stewart, Niki Lauda and long-time rival Michael Schumacher.

25 years on from Ayrton Senna’s tragic death

Now, his famous Honda has been advertised on Auto Trader by its current owner Rober McFagan from East Sussex, who bought it in 2013 in Portugal.

The asking price is a whopping £500,000 and there are just 39,100 miles on the clock.

Mr McFagan said: “Being a huge Senna fan myself, I was delighted when I was able to get my hands on the NSX which was crafted to perfection and features a sleek and powerful machine to give an incredible experience on the road.

“It’s been a real pleasure owning what is one of the most famous cars belonging to a true sporting legend and the thrill of driving Senna’s car never goes away.”

Erin Baker, Auto Trader’s editorial director, added: “Senna’s impact on Formula One and the world of motorsport was immeasurable and Senna’s iconic Honda NSX is a chance to own a rare piece of sporting history which will no doubt turn heads and spark conversations amongst friends, family and neighbours.”
