ShipBob, a logistics tech company backed by Softbank, has opened a fulfilment centre (packing warehouse) in Dublin.
he Chicago-headquartered company, which is valued at over $1bn (€950m), opened the facility in Blanchardstown as part of its growing presence in Europe.
It provides storage facilities and management software for small online merchants to run their logistics.
Its European operations are led by Irishman Enda Breslin, who is based in Barcelona and took the reins for the region last year.
“Brexit threw the cat among the pigeons. We have a lot of UK customers who came to us saying we have a very sizable business in Ireland and can’t ship from the UK to Ireland now because it’s just too much work. Can you open up a fulfilment centre for us there?” Breslin said.
ShipBob’s customers are mainly small and medium-sized businesses that do not have the resources for managing their own logistics operations.
“We’re bringing global logistics to small, medium-sized businesses who couldn’t normally do it themselves or wouldn’t know where to start.”
It has around 70 merchants using the building and has facilities in the UK and Poland with plans for openings in Italy, Spain and the Netherlands.
