You know the rules of the road better than almost 90% of drivers if you can answer five basic theory test questions

IF YOU’RE a motorist and can answer five basic theory questions then you likely know the road rules better than almost 90 per cent of drivers.

Knowing the road rules ensures that driving on Britain’s roads can be safe for everybody.

But for most motorists its been years since we have sat down and studied the official theory and read the rule book.

In fact, over 50 per cent of Brits haven’t read the Highway Code since passing their driving test despite 24 recent updates to the rulebook.

So, Independent Advisor Car Insurance created a mini theory test to check whether Brits are up to scratch on their road rule knowledge, the Mirror reported.

They surveyed 2,010 drivers across the country and found a whopping 88 per cent of us failed to answer five basic theory questions.

The survey also found that over half would fail their theory test if they retook it today.

Here are the five questions they asked drivers – don’t scroll down beyond until you’re ready to see the answers.

  1. What, if anything, do you think triangular road signs indicate?
  2. What lights, if any, do you think are appropriate to turn on when driving on the motorway at night, when there are cars ahead of you?
  3. What, if anything, do you think the legal speed limit on a motorway is, if no signs indicate otherwise?
  4. When driving on a wet road, what time gap, if any, do you think you need to leave between your car and the car in front of you?
  5. What, if anything, do you think you should do if you have to quickly slow down when driving on the motorway?

In an official UK theory test the pass mark is 86 per cent, but with only five questions you’ll need to answer all five to reach that mark.

If you struggled with these questions, it might be worth reading through the Highway Code again and figuring out where you went wrong.

Maybe the rules have completely changed since you first sat the test.

If you think you aced the test, well done. But, check out the answers below:

  1. Warnings
  2. Dipped headlights
  3. 61mph to 70mph
  4. 4-5 seconds
  5. Turn on your hazard lights

Independent Advisor Car Insurance‘s survey found only a shocking 21 per cent of respondents were able to identify the warning road sign.

Meanwhile only one in five thought they should turn on their main beam headlines when driving on a motorway at night.

Making that decision could blind other drivers and make the road more dangerous for everybody.

Thousands of Brits demand new driving law as nine in 10 agree on major problem & it’s ‘just getting worse’

By Jacob Jaffa

THOUSANDS of Brits have demanded a significant driving law change as nine in 10 agree that a major problem is “getting worse”.

The RAC has thrown its backing behind the campaign to combat what it considers a serious safety hazard.

petition has been submitted to Parliament demanding an investigation into the brightness of LED headlights.

The devices have become increasingly popular with car manufacturers as they are often able to provide a better field of vision than traditional halogen bulbs.

However, an RAC survey found that 90% of drivers have reported issues with them, including being dazzled by oncoming motors.
