The design for the Xiaomi 16 flagship smartphone has leaked, and there’s one particular flourish that marks it apart from its predecessor.
Maijinbu Official has supplied a high quality CAD render of Xiaomi’s next flagship phone, and if you were to squint, you’d probably struggle to tell it apart from the Xiaomi 15.
It has the same vaguely iPhone-ish outline, and the same large black square of an offset camera module. It’s not identical, however.
Xiaomi 16 two-tone design
Look around that familiar camera module and you’ll see an all new finish. Where the Xiaomi 15 offered a solid block of colour for the glass material that makes up the back cover, the Xiaomi 16 looks set to mix things up a little.
The area immediately surrounding the camera, along with a border area running all the way around the rear surface, is one finish. It looks slightly beige-y, or perhaps even metal-effect.
Then the central portion of the lower two third of the phone has taken on a greyer, more matte tone. It’s actually quite effective without being distractingly in-your-face or gaudy.

Xiaomi 16 rumoured specs
We’ve heard a number of rumours about the Xiaomi 16’s specification in recent months.
Just a couple of weeks ago we heard that the Xiaomi 16 could feature a massive 6,800mAh battery with 100W charging. As I commented at the time, this could very well only apply to the Chinese model, but an increased battery size for the global model would seem likely too.
Prior to that, we heard that the Xiaomi 16 would pack a top quality display (likely in the 6.3-inch region) with class-leading PWM dimming for eye protection.
It’s also been said that Xiaomi’s next compact flagship will pack a triple 50MP camera system, much like the Xiaomi 15. This could also be the first phone to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip, if rumours of an earlier-than-usual September launch prove accurate.
