For 29 years, super spy Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) has been fighting schemes to destroy the world. Fortunately, his struggles are coming to an end, as Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning premieres this week.
The first instalment of the Mission: Impossible franchise was created in 1996 by Brian De Palma as a reboot of the 1966 TV series of the same name and its 1988 sequel series. Although De Palma didn’t direct any of the following flicks, and the franchise drifted from its initial vibe, Mission: Impossible remains one of the most successful cinematic series ever.
The eighth and, most likely, the last instalment of the series, The Final Reckoning, hits cinemas this week. In addition to Tom Cruise, the film will feature Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Ving Rhame, Nick Offerman, Hannah Waddingham and… Tramell Tillman, known for his portrayal of ominous Mr. Milcheck in Severance. Viewers can also expect a tangled espionage plot and extraordinary stunts for which the series is famous.
Whether The Final Reckoning is a worthy farewell to the series is best seen at the cinema. However, if you’re already curious about when the Tom Cruise-led movie will hit home media, continue reading this article.
How to watch Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning now

When could Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning be released on VOD?
Paramount Pictures, which distributes the new Mission: Impossible, hasn’t revealed any dates for the digital premiere. A lot will depend on how The Final Reckoning does at the box office.
Dead Reckoning, the previous entry in the Mission: Impossible franchise, was a box-office disappointment, despite earning worldwide $571.1 million and becoming the tenth-highest-grossing film of 2023. Paramount didn’t rush its VOD premiere – the movie became available for rental and purchase 90 days after opening at the cinemas.
However, Paramount’s most successful films have appeared on digital much quicker – on average around 32 days after their theatrical debut. This was the case with A Quiet Place: Day One and Gladiator 2, two huge hits of 2024.
Therefore, there’s a chance that Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning may arrive on VOD around Tuesday, 24 June 2025. However, we could be in for a longer wait. After all, Tom Cruise has always been keen for viewers to head to the cinema where possible.
The UK premiere date may differ from the US one – we will keep you informed on this matter.

When could Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning be released on streaming services?
Dead Reckoning arrived on streaming in the US after its VOD and DVD releases. However, most Paramount films do so after releasing on VOD. It usually happens quickly – A Quiet Place: Day One and Gladiator 2 appeared on the platform just 28 days after their release on VOD. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem took 18 days to make that journey, and Smile 2 took just two weeks.
If our prediction above is correct, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning may air on Paramount+ from early July 2025.
Keep in mind that these are our predictions, and Paramount hasn’t yet provided any information on the subject. If the VOD release is delayed, we may not see it hit platforms until autumn 2025.
When will Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning be released on DVD/Blu-ray?
Physical copies of the film are likely to appear last. However, it’s hard to say when this might happen, as it’s an individual issue with Paramount films. A Quiet Place: Day One and Gladiator 2 came out on DVD and Blu-ray 42 days after their premiere on streaming, while Smile 2 needed 49 days to do so.
On the other hand, physical copies of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves came out just two weeks after its debut on Paramount+.
Therefore, it’s possible that Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in late summer/early fall of 2025. Stay tuned to this article for any updates.
