Examples have been owned by rock star Eric Clapton and legendary actor Steve McQueen.

This one, though, was the property for former Top Gear host and Virgin radio presenter Chris Evans.

Evans, a well-known petrolhead, took possession of the motor back in 2013 and even displayed it at Goodwood.

It is one of just 350 like it ever made, with this being the 16th example.

Since leaving the star’s collection, it has been maintained by specialist firm GTO Engineering and lovingly kept in showroom-ready condition.

Photos show the Ferrari red exterior giving way to a plush brown leather trim.

The bucket style seats, analogue dials and retro steering wheel all remind you of its storied history dating back to 1963.

Almost everything is original, apart from some light modifications added when it was exported to Texas in the ’60s.

It will now go under the hammer with high-end auctioneers RM Sotheby’s.

The listing states: “In 2011, chassis 4383 was sent to the UK for a full restoration at DK Engineering. Completed to a concours standard, 250 GTO moulds and drawings were precisely scaled to authentically finish the one-off bodywork.

“This car then returned to DK Engineering the year after for a mechanical rebuild, and to be finished in its present classic Ferrari red over tan interior.

“It was subsequently displayed at Walton Hall for the Ferrari Owners’ Club GB annual meeting in 2013, before being sold to radio and TV broadcaster Chris Evans, an avid collector of the marque.

“Chassis 4383 boasts a compelling continuous history that not only includes a significant player in 1960s single-seater racing as its original keeper, but more recent custodianship by Evans, one of the UK’s best-known media personalities.

“The car’s early bodywork adaptions by Fantuzzi make this 250 GT/L Berlinetta, a model which is already a particularly rare and special, a truly unique ownership proposition.”

The auction is set to take place at Cliveden House, a luxury hotel in Taplow, Berkshire, on June 12.

The Ferrari comes with a guide price of between £1 million and £1.5million.
