Vintage Alfa Romeo with low mileage that’s same as car snapped up by Jeremy Clarkson up for auction

A VINTAGE Alfa Romeo with a super low mileage is up for auction – and it could be yours.

Once described as “tremendous for a short commute and trips out at the weekend” by Jeremy Clarkson, the Italian model is certainly one of a kind.

After Alain Cudini and Dany Snobeck’s victory in the French Production Championship in 1983, Alfa Romeo built France a limited edition collection of models to celebrate.

Now, you have the opportunity to get your hands on one of them yourself.

Painted in red and boasting a 2500cc engine, the 1984 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV6 is any car lover’s dream.

Former Top Gear host Clarkson previously bought one of the models for himself, costing just £8,000.

This model up for auction, however, has just 35,728 miles on the clock, meaning it’s practically unused.

It even has its original yellow headlights, a leather steering wheel and original grey and numbered stripes on the front sides.

There’s also a commemorative plaque on the glovebox lid that says “autographs by Snobeck and Cudini”.

Listed on carandclassic.com, the motor has an asking price of €46,500 (£40,035).

As per the product description, the Alfa Romeo is in “very good mechanical condition, with bodywork and interior close to new”.

However, having been immobilised for “a long time”, the braking system was rebuilt with four new calipers and four new discs.

The fuel system was also repaired, although the gearbox control has been described as “excellent” for this type of car.

An added bonus is how the pioneer K7 radio is the original fitment.

The 1984 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV6 is being sold by a private seller and is currently based in Les Gets, a commune in southeastern France.

After Clarkson bought his Alfa Romeo, he admitted it had its fair share of struggles – despite having just one owner and being in “extremely good condition”.

“Is it any good? Not really.” he said. “Sometimes it won’t let me have second gear. Sometimes it won’t let me have third and last weekend it wouldn’t let me have any gears at all.”

The motoring expert even complained of its “preposterously heavy” steering and uncomfortable driving position.

Yet despite all this, it is “a lovely thing to own and an even lovelier thing to look at.”

Clarkson added: “And here’s the best thing of all. I can’t lose money on it. I may even make some. So next time you’re buying a car, forget the latest Korean box and buy an old MG instead.”

Elsewhere, YouTube supremo Jonny Brighton of Cars With JB has listed his top choices for motoring connoisseurs keen on a “head-turning” Alfa Romeo, and the super cool 147 GTA was perhaps the pick of the bunch.

The lightning fast 147 GTA, produced between 2002 and 2005, boasts a surprisingly large 3.2-litre engine capable of hitting 247 bhp – taking it to 60 mph in just over six seconds and a top speed of 153 mph.

Last year, Italian performance brand Abarth revealed the retro-inspired Abarth Classiche 1300 OT to celebrate its 75th anniversary.

The car marker, which has long been associated with Fiat, will release the aggressive-looking high performance motor based on the Alfa Romeo 4C.
