THE most desirable used cars in the UK have been revealed – and could be worth thousands more than owners imagine.
Carwow, an online vehicle retail platform, has shared a list of the most popular used models that have surged in value in recent months.
The cost-of-living crisis has meant many have cut back on expenses with car buyers forced to purchase used models.
However, for some models, demand outweighs the supply.
John Rawlings, Consumer Editor at Carwow, revealed that drivers with unused vehicles could be sitting on thousands of pounds.
The motors expert said that he was shocked to learn that even a “small percentage” of motorists who own a car they don’t drive has resulted in a large volume of vehicles across the UK not being used.
He added: “If you’ve got a vehicle parked on your drive that’s never used, consider getting it valued – it might be worth more than you think.”
The most sought-after car with used buyers is the reliable EV, Volvo XC40, according to Carwow.
It is a compact crossover which is available as petrol, diesel, hybrid or fully electric.
SUVs are also in high demand in the used car market with the compact hybrid Nissan Juke, BMW X3 and Audi Q5 featuring on Carwow’s list.
Unsurprisingly, superminis and other city cars also made the list because of their economical engines and low insurance prices.
Cars such as the Hyundai i10, Kia Picanto and Peugeot 208 all made the cut.
Those looking to get the best value for their car should get it inspected and serviced, especially if it has been off the road for several months, according to the car expert.
The brakes can gather rust and the fluids in the vehicle could also need changing.
John added: “A good clean can also do wonders to prepare it for sale.”
It comes after a petrolhead urged drivers to look for a sports car that offers “a taste of supercar ownership at a fraction of the price”.
And a used car expert revealed dealers are “slashing the prices of their motors” and how you can bag yourself a bargain.
