Transportation planner speaks to non-voting taxpayers Saturday – The Inquirer and Mirror

(May 2, 2024) Transportation planner Mike Burns will speak at Saturday’s meeting of the Advisory Committee of Non-Voting Taxpayers at 1- a.m. in the town’s meeting trailer at 131 Pleasant St.

The meeting will also be available by Zoom at  https://us06web.zoom.us/j/83933825055. The public is welcome to attend, either in person or via Zoom.

Burns will share information about transportation-related issues facing Nantucket, as well as developments over the past year.

Burns rejoined the Town’s Planning & Land Use Services department in March 2023 after a three-year stint in Houston, Texas. He had worked for the town in a transportation role from 2001 until 2020. Burns earned a bachelor of science degree from Arizona State University in city/urban, community and regional planning. In his current role, he serves as the town’s liaison to the state for both state and federal funding for transportation projects, including bicycle paths, roads, pedestrian issues and public transportation.






Also on the agenda for Saturday’s meeting are updates on the work of the Town Council Study Committee and the Bicycle Safety Advisory Committee, and a discussion of issues impacting non-voters at the upcoming Special Town Meeting.

Advisory Committee of Non-Voting Taxpayers meetings are generally held the first Saturday of the month with the next meeting June 1. Details and future speakers will be announced.

The Advisory Committee, which dates to 1991, is a group of 15 seasonal residents appointed by the town manager for three-year terms. The committee makes recommendations to the Select Board on issues of concern to non-resident taxpayers.
