Threads now allow users to control who can quote their posts

Threads, the social media platform, is now allowing users to control who can quote their posts. In other words, users can now put restrictions on their posts. While this may offer a “positive experience” to some users, the feature could be used to avoid accountability.

Thread users can stop other users from quoting their posts

Threads is reportedly offering users more control over who can quote their posts. Quoting a post on Threads essentially means reposting the thread with added commentary. These could be in the form of replies or just sharing the post with or without any context.

Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, announced the update for the Threads social media platform this weekend. He claims the feature will, “help keep Threads a more positive place.”

The new feature was under beta testing until last month. Several Threads users had access to the same. Moving forward, Threads is now rolling out the new feature to all users.

How to use the new Threads feature to restrict posts being quoted?

Threads is essentially an extension of Instagram. The social media platform technically rivals X (formerly Twitter). It has now amassed 150 million monthly users.

Looking at the features Threads is adding, it appears the creators are trying hard to improve safety and the overall user experience. Last month, Threads rolled out the “Hidden Words” feature. Users can activate this feature and designate certain terms that they want to be filtered out of their feeds.

With the new feature, Threads is essentially allowing users to restrict other users from quoting their posts, with or without commentary. Users have the option of restricting all users from quoting their posts. Alternatively, Threads users can also allow only certain users they follow to quote their posts.

Mosseri claimed this feature would help keep Threads a positive place and give users more control over their experience. He has also welcomed feedback.
