TCL has announced its latest TV series, the Google TV-powered QM8K, boasting a rather huge upgrade to the speaker system and some other very notable improvements to help boost the viewing experience. One of the big changes with this new TV model is TCL’s claim of edge-to-edge viewing thanks to the company’s new “ZeroBorder” design. TCL says that this “revolutionizes TV panel design,” but it’s also only one of a few different improvements the company is introducing with this latest TV model.
Another upgrade comes in the form of TCL’s Halo Control System. In the simplest terms, this new control system makes it so that the edges between bright whites and dark blacks appear as clear and sharp as possible, so you end up with a better overall image. TCL achieves this by using a new Super High Energy LED chip and a Super Condensed Micro Lens, as well as a new TCL Micro OD.
“The new system’s Super High Energy LED Chip combines high brightness with increased light efficiency, while a Super Condensed Micro Lens uses a narrower light path for more precise light control. Additionally, the new TCL Micro OD reduces optical distance between the backlight and diffuser plate, helping avoid light overlap for virtually no blooming or halo effect, to produce clear, sharp edges between bright whites and dark blacks,” TCL says.
The TCL QM8K TV now comes with Bang & Olufsen speakers
Many of TCL’s other 2025 and 2024 TV sets, like the QM6K we reviewed earlier this year, all feature support for Dolby Atmos to enhance the immersiveness and realism of the audio. So what you’re watching feels as if you’re in the action. The QM8K still has Dolby Atmos support, but it also features speakers that were built by Bang & Olufsen (just like the QM7K). So, you’re likely to get a much better audio experience than with other TVs.
The improvements to audio don’t stop there, either. The QM8K also features Dolby’s FlexConnect technology. This essentially calibrates the speakers on the TV with wireless speakers placed around the room to provide a surround sound experience. So far, only TCL’s Z100 smart speaker works with this, but it’ll expand to more speakers eventually. Placement of the speakers also doesn’t really matter, as FlexConnect was designed to calibrate based on wherever the speakers are, in addition to the size of the room. So you get a nice immersive effect no matter what.
Of course, TCL’s nearly borderless “ZeroBorder” design is not to be forgotten. With the nearly edge-to-edge picture, you get to see more of what you’re watching on-screen. The QM8K also comes with a 144Hz refresh rate and TCL’s awesome gaming features.
The TV launches today, starting at $2,299.99
TCL is launching the new QM8K TV in four sizes, starting at 65 inches and going all the way up to 98 inches. The 65-inch and the 85-inch models are the first to launch and are available at Best Buy. TCL says it plans to sell the 75-inch and 98-inch models later this month.
