Sony Xperia 1 VII Will Be A Powerhouse, Geekbench Confirms

Sony seems ready to launch a new model in its Xperia lineup. The company will soon introduce the Xperia 1 VII. Reports that have emerged so far suggest that we can expect flagship-level performance from the phone. The device’s recent listing on Geekbench, along with confirmation that a powerful chipset will power it, supports these claims.

Geekbench confirms the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip for the Sony Xperia 1 VII

Geekbench has put the upcoming Sony Xperia 1 VII to the test. The phone managed to score 2,967 and 9,017 in the single-core and multi-core tests, respectively. The listing confirms that the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC will power the Xperia 1 VII. This also means that the model will feature the Adreno 830 GPU, which supports ray tracing.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite is produced using TSMC’s 3nm process and features an 8-core structure. It includes two Oryon cores clocked at 4,320 MHz and six Oryon cores running at 3,530 MHz.

For reference, Sony launched the Xperia 1 VI in May last year, and it is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. This suggests that the Xperia 1 VII will continue to offer flagship-level performance like its predecessors.

Additionally, Geekbench confirms that the Xperia 1 VII will come with 12GB RAM and run Android 15 out of the box.

The device was recently certified by the US FCC. This reveals that it measures 162 x 74.5 x 8.5 mm. At the same time, considering its previously leaked images, we can infer that it will be slightly thicker than today’s flagship devices. Sources also expect the device to feature a minimum 4,850 mAh/typical 5,000 mAh battery.

Reports say that Sony’s flagship will feature a 6.5-inch OLED display with 4K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Moreover, it will feature a triple-camera setup, comprising a 48MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 12MP periscope telephoto camera with a 70–200mm focal length. On the front, there will probably be a 12MP selfie sensor.

As of now, there is no official word on the launch date of the Sony Xperia 1 VII. However, sources predict that the company will launch the handset on May 15, with a starting price of USD 1,399. They also expect the company to hold the global launch in July 2025.
