Apple will hold its next Worldwide Developers Conference from June 9 to June 13. At the conference, the Cupertino tech giant will highlight updates and changes across its software platforms, including iOS, iPadOS, visionOS, watchOS, and tvOS. In addition, the company could make a few announcements related to Apple Intelligence, its suite of AI features. Furthermore, Apple could give its Shortcuts app an AI revamp at the same event.
Apple’s Shortcuts app will reportedly get Apple Intelligence capabilities
According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple’s planned AI revamp will bring some Apple Intelligence-powered features to the Shortcuts app. The changes to the app could allow users to engage in natural language interactions for playing a music playlist or creating other automated tasks. Apple’s Shortcuts app’s AI revamp will be a part of the company’s larger push towards improving AI integration in its in-house apps and OS platforms.
As per the source, the new Shortcuts application may allow users to make custom interactions using Apple Intelligence models. For example, users will be able to launch specific features or play a select playlist using AI-based shortcuts on Apple products like the iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Bringing Shortcuts on par with other AI-heavy services like Microsoft’s Copilot+
Apple’s new Shortcuts app will further lower the barrier for automation-curious users who might find the current user interface of Shortcuts a bit challenging to navigate. Furthermore, with the AI revamp, the app will get closer to other services. As of now, the app feels a bit outdated compared to current AI solutions. While Microsoft’s Copilot+ PCs have a deeper AI integration with Windows OS, Apple’s platforms have been more reserved in this regard.
Apple could introduce these new features for the Shortcuts app at the upcoming WWDC event on June 9 at Apple Park in California. However, the revamped features may not be available to end users until 2026, Gurman added in the report. Since WWDC is just around the corner, we’ll find out more soon enough.
