Sonic Rumble Will Be A 32-Player Battle Royale, Because Everyone Loves Battle Royales
Today, Sega just announced Sonic Rumble, the newest game to feature that famous blue hedgehog and his friends, and it will be launching exclusively on mobile devices. What you should know right away is that this game is going to be a 32-player battle royale, which is smaller than most battle royales (they like to hit the 100-player mark for proper mayhem).
The premise of the game is that you’re going to be playing as a toy figure of a Sonic character, dropped into a “twisted world created by the notorious Dr. Eggman, and you’ll be competing with other toys to collect the most rings in a race and be the fastest of them all. Of course, you’ll be able to select any of the iconic characters that we all know and love, like Sonic, Shadow, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and so on, but you’ll also be able to customize your own character if you like to be more unique.
The game is being developed by the folks at Sega along with Rovio, who you might know for the insane smash hit that is the Angry Birds series (though Sega owns Rovio now). So, this project is in the hands of two very experienced video game developers.
You’re Going To Need To Wait Until The Winter Months Before This Game Is Available
If you’re a Sonic mega fan and you’re itching to get your hands on Sonic Rumble, you’re unfortunately going to need to be extremely patient, because the game isn’t coming anytime soon. In fact, there’s no solid launch date beyond “this Winter”, so that could be December or it could be February 2025, who knows? Of course, by the time the launch gets a lot closer, we’ll have a more solid date to look forward to.

Sonic Is Pretty Big Right Now So The Game Should Do Well
Since the birth of Sonic the Hedgehog, when has he not been big? The answer is never (even on mobile, because there have been Sonic games there since 2013). Sonic is one of the most popular video game characters, next to icons like Mario and Pikachu, and he’s bound to be really big towards the end of the year, and that’s not just because of Sonic Rumble releasing then, but because that’s when Sonic The Hedgehog 3 is releasing in theaters.
