Secrets revealed: Samsung gives the skinny on the Galaxy S25 Edge's thin build

The secrets of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge thickness, or lack thereof, are a secret no more, because Samsung has just thrown the door wide open and given the public the skinny on how it was able to make the phone as thin as it did. One might think it just boils down to thinner components, but that isn’t really the case. At least, it’s not the complete story as Samsung reveals there was a lot more involved than just using thinner hardware.

Naturally, Samsung didn’t get things right the first time. The company says it tried out several different ideas and came up with a bunch of prototypes. All of this happened before Samsung finally found something that would work and meet its standards. In the end, Samsung’s efforts resulted in a phone that measures 5.8mm thin and weighs only 163g.

The secrets of the Galaxy S25 Edge’s thinness include a new mounting system

Samsung doesn’t go into extreme specifics here, but the company says a big part of how it made the phone so thin is its mounting system. This new mounting system is different from the one used in the Galaxy S25.

By implementing this new system, Samsung was able to place components with precision down to 0.1mm. Helping it achieve its thinnest Galaxy phone ever. Samsung also wanted to ensure the phone was durable enough to withstand everyday use despite being thinner and lighter. So it used the same titanium that it used for the frame on the Galaxy S25 Ultra, and Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2.

Slimming down components

Using the new mounting system was a major breakthrough for Samsung. However, it had to slim down some components as well. This included shaving about 10% off the camera module. “The thickness of the main camera was reduced by more than 10% through structural optimization of the autofocus and optical image stabilization,” Samsung said.

The company also reworked the vapor chamber by using a new hole structure that allowed for more direct heat transfer from the application processor to the vapor chamber. So, there you have it. Slimmed-down components definitely play a role, but Samsung’s new mounting system is what made using slimmed-down components possible.
