Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6: Everything we know so far about the next big foldable smartphone – The Indian Express

Samsung made foldable smartphones mainstream. The company is now gearing up for the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold and the Galaxy Z Flip 6, their 6th Gen Foldables. According to reports, the phones are likely to be unveiled at the next Galaxy Unpacked event. As per SamMobile, the event will be held on July 10, 2024, in Paris.

While Samsung spearheaded the foldable smartphone innovation until last year, Chinese smartphone makers like OnePlus, Oppo, Honor, along with many other brands have forayed into the territory, unveiling foldable smartphones that are thinner, lighter, and more capable than the Galaxy Z series. With the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6, the company might redeem the pioneer title by packing more features and innovations.

If you are looking forward to the Galaxy Z Fold 6, here is everything we know so far about it:

Might look similar to its predecessor

The overall design of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 might not be very different from the Galaxy Z Fold5. However, the new offering could be a bit thinner and lighter due to internal changes.

Last year, with the Galaxy Z Fold5, Samsung introduced a new hinge system that almost eliminated the gap when folded. This year, we could expect to see an improved version of the same, possibly with fewer moving parts. This will not only make the device lighter but could also make it less susceptible to damage.

Festive offer

Colour options

According to a report by Ross Young, a smartphone supply chain analyst, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 might come in six different colours – Dark Blue called Navy, Light Pink, and Silver called Silver Shadow, along with limited edition colour options such as Crafted Black and White.

These new colour options will help differentiate between the Galaxy Z Fold6 and the previous generation models, and the limited edition models are likely to be available exclusively on the company’s official website.

Improved and durable display panels

The heart and soul of a foldable smartphone will be its primary display, and the Galaxy Z Fold6 is likely to include a 7.6-inch FHD+ resolution screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, possibly with a higher level of brightness when compared to the Galaxy Z Fold5.

The cover display is likely to remain similar to that of its predecessor, a 6.4-inch screen with a wider form factor. The cover display could get Gorilla Glass Armor protection with anti-glare qualities similar to the Galaxy S24 Ultra (review).

With the new hinge system, the Galaxy Z Fold6 might be able to reduce the visible crease, the way OnePlus did on its Open foldable smartphone.
Impressive hardware anticipated

Samsung foldables are always known for cutting-edge hardware, and the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold6 will be no different.

It is likely to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, similar to the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Just like the Galaxy Z Fold5, the upcoming iteration is likely to offer at least 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage, with the high-end model offering up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage.

Samsung could also improve the protection used on these displays, which could make the device more durable, and the device is likely to offer an IPX8 rating for water resistance like the last few generations of the Galaxy foldable. In terms of battery, the Z Fold6 might offer a 4,400 mAh battery similar to its predecessor.

Besides, the Galaxy Z Fold6 is said to include an improved under-display selfie camera, while the primary camera setup is likely to be similar to the Galaxy Z Fold5, with a 50 MP primary wide-angle camera, 12 MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 10 MP 3x telephoto lens. On the cover display, there could be another 10 MP selfie camera.

OneUI 6.1 with Galaxy AI

The Galaxy Z Fold6 is likely to ship with Android 14-based OneUI 6.1 with Galaxy AI features, which were recently introduced on the Galaxy Z Fold5 and the Galaxy Z Flip5. And just like the Galaxy S24 series, the device might get up to seven years of software support.

Might get a price hike

All these improvements could make the Galaxy Z Fold6 a bit more expensive than its predecessors. Besides the Z Fold6, the company is also expected to launch the Galaxy Z Flip6 and the Galaxy Ring at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked 2024 event. And there are also talks that, the company might introduce an ultra version of the Galaxy Z Fold6 with better cameras, bigger battery, and more.
