Samsung forms OLED research team dedicated to Apple products

Samsung Display has reportedly formed a dedicated team to develop OLED panels for Apple. Called the “A Team,” it will oversee the research and development (R&D) of OLED displays for various Apple products. The team is part of the company’s Giheung Research Institute in Yongin, South Korea.

Samsung forms special team to develop OLED displays for Apple

Apple is one of Samsung’s biggest display customers. The company uses Samsung-made OLED displays on most of its iPhones, with LG and a few other firms supplying the displays for some units. Last year, all four iPhone 15 models featured Samsung OLEDs. The iPhone SE 4 is also expected to feature displays manufactured by the Korean firm.

However, Samsung knows that it cannot take Apple for granted, particularly when other vendors are upping their game. Chinese OLED suppliers are increasing their production capacities and product qualities, luring Apple towards them. The Korean behemoth may be looking to counter that with a dedicated R&D team to speed up the development of its OLED solutions for Apple products.

The iPhone maker is also expected to expand the use of OLED displays to other products such as tablets. The first OLED iPad may debut anytime now. Apple’s laptops and monitors may also soon switch from LCD to OLED screens. Considering the scale of the business opportunity here, it is no surprise that Samsung is forming a special team to cater to Apple’s OLED demands.

Samsung may not be looking to only improve its OLED tech for Apple products. While the A Team may be dedicated to Apple, the company is probably at work to accelerate its OLED R&D in general. The OLED industry continues to grow rapidly and the Korean conglomerate would want to grab the opportunity with both hands. After all, it already has a solid foundation that it can build upon.

The first OLED iPad is almost here

Apple has scheduled a “Let Loose” event for later today. The event is expected to bring the company’s first OLED iPads. It will offer two iPad Pro variants with an OLED display, one with an 11.1-inch panel and the other with a 13.1-inch panel. OLED screens may eventually come to bigger iPads in a few years. Today’s event kicks off at 7 AM PT/10 AM ET/2 PM GMT. You can live stream it on Apple.com and YouTube. We will bring all the announcements from Apple to you here at Android Headlines.
