Samsung’s revolutionary wearable device, the Galaxy Ring, launched in July last year, generating hype in the technology industry for its sleekness and health-oriented capabilities. The tech giant has since introduced extra sizes and hinted at a special colorway to keep the hype going.
Recently, the news confirmed that Samsung is indeed working on the Galaxy Ring 2, although a launch is likely to be far away.
Galaxy Ring 2 Development Still in Early Stages
With the latest report from Galaxy Club, Samsung has barely started development of the following Galaxy Ring and, therefore, fans expecting a 2025 release might be disappointed. The smart ring is in the early stages of development and thus it’s hard to know its exact features or advancements.
The Dutch news outlet says, “Right now, we are not expecting a 2025 launch.” Rather, the second-generation ring can be launched alongside Samsung’s Galaxy S26 lineup or beyond, maybe extending the launch to 2026.
Possible Galaxy Ring 2 Specifications and Improvements
While it’s still in development, there are already a few Galaxy Ring 2 rumors out. Most obviously, insiders mention a possible design refresh, potentially with a flexible design to better have sensors wrap around the user’s finger. This is proposed in a Samsung patent and is likely to enhance biometric samples.
March leaks also suggested improved temperature monitoring features. The new sensors would allegedly be able to measure not just surface temperatures but internal body temperatures as well, providing more accurate health information than ever.
In late 2024, Galaxy Ring 2 was rumored to debut during Unpacked 2025, but it didn’t happen.
Motion Sensors and Gesture Tracking
Another rumored feature of the Samsung smart ring is the motion-sensing technology. Should that be the case, Galaxy Ring 2 could potentially feature an accelerometer and a gyroscope, allowing the ring to sense finger and hand movement. This would open the door to gesture controls, further removing the distinction between wearables and conventional smart devices.
The innovation would provide Samsung with a dominant advantage over rivals such as Oura and Ultrahuman, rendering the Galaxy Ring 2 more than a health tracker, but a smart, all-purpose wearable.
Battery Tech Might Inflate Price
Easily the most ambitious speculation is about the battery. Rumor has it Samsung is investigating the application of solid electrolyte batteries, a significant improvement on the conventional lithium-ion cells. These new cells would raise energy density from 200 to 360Wh/L, with longer life and more design freedom, perfect for small form factor devices such as rings.
However, this cutting-edge technology may also come at a price, according to Android Central. If Samsung moves forward with solid electrolytes, the Galaxy Ring 2 could cost significantly more than its predecessor and other smart rings currently on the market.
While speculation and patents offer a peek into what’s to come, Samsung has yet to make any official announcements. Until then, these features remain unconfirmed, and fans should temper expectations.
