Realme Concept Phone Focuses on a Huge Battery in a Slim Body

As far as smartphone companies go, Realme is one of the youngest out there. Even though it was only founded in 2018, the company has managed to position itself as one of the best brands for high-performance devices at a sensible price. The OEM is also not afraid of pushing boundaries when it can, dabbling in concept devices often.

Realme was the same company that showcased 320W fast charging, juicing a phone up to 100% in just 4 minutes. With that in mind, it shouldn’t be too surprising that the same company is the one developing a concept phone with a 10,000mAh battery packed inside. And no, it isn’t a brick like that Energizer phone. That’s what makes this one cool.

Power That Never Stops: Realme Teases Its GT 10000mAh Concept Smartphone

Concept phones almost never find their way onto production lines, so many people’d rather pay attention to things like Realme’s upcoming GT 7 launch—that phone will actually launch, and soon too. However, as the term “concept phone” gives away, these devices serve as proof-of-concept, showing that crazy things like ridiculously fast charging can actually work. In this case, it’s a massive 10,000mAh battery.

We know that silicon-carbon batteries are changing the game for smartphone manufacturers, leaving the previously “big” 5,000mAh mark in the past, in less than a year. However, I always felt like the ceiling was around the 8,000mAh mark. After all, ever since the new battery revolution, we’ve seen phones like the following:

  • Honor Power: 8,000mAh
  • iQOO Z10 Turbo: 7,620mAh
  • Xiaomi Redmi Turbo 4 Pro: 7,550mAh
  • Realme GT7 (Chinese Variant): 7,200mAh
  • Oppo K13: 7,000mAh

With that in mind, a phone with a 10,000mAh battery doesn’t seem like a dream, but it is still a crazy thing, especially if the phone doesn’t look like a brick. That’s what Realme is teasing with its GT 10000mAh, though.

Realme achieved the capacity with a 10% silicon battery, the highest in any smartphone. Its new Mini Diamond Architecture allows for the narrowest Android mainboard and keeps it from getting painfully bulky. The device will likely never be released, but it might be shown off at the global launch for the Realme GT 7.

The Current Battery Revolution Means Google, Samsung, Others Have to Get Serious

Chinese manufacturers are never scared of pushing the boundaries, especially regarding hardware, and that’s one thing that I love about them. However, a lot of brands that have a weighty presence in North America—Google, Samsung, Apple—tend to shy away from certain industry advancements.

While other manufacturers are playing around at the 100W wired charging mark, Samsung and its friends haven’t crossed the 45W threshold. The same applies to the new battery revolution. With 5,000mAh now being an uncompetitive number, OEMs like Samsung and Google are going to have to do a lot more to make their phones attractive to people who might be considering a Vivo or an Oppo instead.

Things are going to keep climbing, at least with batteries, so I hope to see a little more competition instead of a blowout.
