Rabbit R1 is a Cool AI Assistant, But Most Features Coming Later

It seems that the best Rabbit R1 features will not be available at launch. The device was announced this year as an AI-powered portable assistant with a particular concept. It seeks to help you complete actions with less intervention on your part thanks to the power of artificial intelligence.

However, most of its possibilities will be available in the coming months. In the meantime, its functionality will be relatively limited. This seems like one of those cases where you bet on a product more for its potential of what it could be than for what it is today.

Most of the features of the Rabbit R1 will arrive later

Rabbit OS is the core of the device’s operation. The system integrates a “LAM” (Large Action Model) designed for electronic devices to better understand human language. That is, to make sure you can ask questions colloquially or how you would normally speak. Rabbit OS is able to interact with other supported services on your behalf without having to log in to each of them. It does this through the so-called “Rabbithole”, according to your voice requests.

While there is great potential, there are few supported services or platforms for now. As reported by The Verge, you can currently use it with Spotify, Uber, DoorDash, and Midjourney. Through these services, the Rabbit R1 can complete requests such as ordering food, transportation, playing songs, and more.

To be fair, the capabilities of the currently supported services match the demos shown during the presentation of the device. However, the company plans to add many more features to the Rabbit R1 in the future. They even showed a list of features and services that were both “in development” and “planned.” They also revealed the features that will be available on the device starting this summer.

So, if you buy the device now, the experience will be like “early access.” The company behind the Rabbit R1 seems to have ambitious plans around the device, Rabbit OS, and its LAM. However, only time will tell if all the promises are fulfilled and it becomes the ultimate AI-powered portable assistant.
