Qualcomm to Unveil Next-Gen Snapdragon X Chips in September

At the ongoing Computex 2025 trade show, Qualcomm’s CEO, Cristiano Amon, announced that this year’s Snapdragon Summit event will take place from September 23 to September 25. At the event, the tech giant is all set to launch its next-gen flagship smartphone chip, presumably dubbed the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. Additionally, Qualcomm could also introduce the next-gen Snapdragon X series processors for laptops and PCs at the same event.

Next-gen Snapdragon X-powered devices to arrive in Q1 2026

At Computex 2025, Qualcomm’s Group General Manager, Alex Katouzian, shared that the next-gen Snapdragon X chips should start appearing in consumer devices in the first quarter of 2026. While naming conventions are still a bit up in the air, the rumor mill indicates that the next-gen Qualcomm SoCs for PCs will use the “Snapdragon X2” moniker.

At its September event, Qualcomm could share details about the Snapdragon X2 Elite and X2 Plus chips. The former will be targeting the premium notebooks, while the latter will aim for the mid-range laptops like the recently launched HP OmniBook 5 range.

The company could also launch a “basic” Snapdragon X2 chip. It should arrive later as a more budget-conscious alternative. Qualcomm is already working on the generation after the next one that we’ll know more about in September, Katouzian suggested. This generation would include a full product stack to compete from the low-end up to the high-end.

Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship mobile SoC will debut in September

We do know for sure that Qualcomm will fully showcase the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 at the event. We can safely assume the new chip will provide enhanced CPU and GPU performance while improving the overall efficiency and offering the next-gen AI features.

Qualcomm’s next-gen smartphone chip will face fierce competition from Apple’s upcoming A19 series and MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 SoC. Interestingly, China’s Xiaomi is also entering the high-end smartphone chipset race with its Xring O1 or 01, which the company will unveil on May 22. However, Xiaomi’s chip will likely be competing with the old-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or Gen 2 SoCs.
