Police use iPhone app to find suspect, wrongfully arrest a 76-year-old grandmother

DENVER, Colo. (WKRC/KUSA/CNN Newsource) – A Colorado jury has awarded nearly $4 million to a woman who was arrested due to police misusing an app.
On Jan. 4, 2022, Denver Police were searching for a robbery suspect who was believed to have a truck containing weapons, cash, an iPhone, and other items.
According to court documents, authorities relied on Apple’s “Find My” app to locate the thief, but were directed to the wrong address.
They wrongfully arrested Ruby Johnson, a 76-year-old grandmother, and SWAT agents raided her home. She was recently granted a $3.76 million settlement for pain and suffering.
While lawsuits were filed against the officers involved individually, the City of Denver is responsible for covering the cost of the damages.
