OPPO introduced its latest Find X series flagship smartphone, the Find X8 Ultra, in April. Now, a little over a month after the unveiling, the popular YouTuber Zack from the channel JerryRigEverything has obtained a unit of the OPPO Find X8 Ultra and has performed a durability test. The phone has passed the test…(well, almost)…with flying colors.
OPPO Find X8 Ultra goes through extreme torture in a durability test
The video shows the OPPO Find X8 Ultra undergoing a durability test, where it faces scratches, fire, and bending. There are visible scratches on the phone’s front glass at level 6 on the Mohs hardness scale and deeper grooves at level 7. The handset’s control button that sits flush with the frame is scratchable. A sharp razor blade can easily scratch the glass rear panel.
Interestingly, the Find X8 Ultra’s LTPO AMOLED screen panel lasts for 35 seconds under the heat from a lighter but doesn’t have any visible blemishes or marks. The smartphone has IP68 and IP69 certifications, which make it impervious to any water damage. OPPO’s Find X8 Ultra’s loudspeaker port has a waterproofing mesh protected by the exterior frame, enhancing its water resistance.
Its frame did not survive the bending test
During the durability test, the YouTuber observed that bending the OPPO Find X8 Ultra from the back does not cause any damage. But flipping it around and applying pressure from the front causes separation along the antenna line sitting between the power button and volume rocker. However, it’s only a minor separation, which doesn’t cause any catastrophic damage to the device.
Even with a visible crack in the frame, the Find X8 Ultra continues to lock out and work. The device hasn’t categorically failed the bend test, but it definitely hasn’t passed it either. The bend certainly compromises the IP rating of the device.
The YouTuber has also added a bonus teardown at the end of the video, revealing all the internals of the Find X8 Ultra. He noted that the device justifies its beefy camera bump due to the 1-inch sensor. That said, the durability test reveals that the OPPO Find X8 Ultra is a reasonably robust and rugged device. Unfortunately, OPPO isn’t going to sell the phone outside China, at least any time soon.
