OnePlus 13, 13R could offer differently designed camera modules

OnePlus globally launched the OnePlus 12 (Review) series of flagship smartphones earlier in January. It’s only been a few months since they went on sale and the rumors regarding their successors are already rife. Recently, some skeptical renders of the OnePlus 13 surfaced online. Now, the reliable gadget tipster Yogesh Brar has obtained the early OnePlus 13 & 13R design sketches.

The OnePlus 13 & 13R’s rear camera modules could offer different designs

The leaked sketches reveal that the OnePlus 13 and 13R could have some design differences, mainly in the camera department. The OnePlus 13’s sketch points to a circular camera island, just like its predecessor. However, it could be moved to the center of the back, instead of the left side touching the edges on the OnePlus 12.

As for the OnePlus 13R, the leaked sketch shows a square camera housing placed towards the top-left side. However, it is not touching the edge of the smartphone. Both the OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R (Review) sport circular camera modules. These are located in the top-left corner and are slightly merged with the right edge of the device. That said, it looks like OnePlus is experimenting with different rear designs for its next-gen flagship smartphones.

The OnePlus 13 could be one of the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 smartphones

The upcoming OnePlus 13 could be one of the first smartphones to offer Qualcomm’s next-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset. The smartphone may also provide some on-device AI capabilities. If the rumor mill is to be believed, the flagship will flaunt an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor instead of an optical one. The phone could offer a 6.8-inch OLED LTPO micro-curved display bearing a 2K screen resolution.

Furthermore, the reports indicate that the OnePlus 13 will have a 50MP primary camera sensor on the back. The device is tipped to flaunt a multi-focal camera system including a periscope telephoto lens for better optical zooming capabilities. The OnePlus 13R model on the other hand could have the current-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and different camera sensors.

The OnePlus 13 and 13R are expected to launch in China first at some point in December, just like their predecessors. Similarly, the global launch of the new OnePlus flagships could happen in late January with the shippings starting in early February. Since the launch is quite far away, we expect more details regarding their specs and the launch date soon.
