One UI 8's New Filter Feature Makes File Search Effortless

Samsung has been testing One UI 8 internally for some time, and the anticipated announcement finally arrived today. The tech giant has launched the beta program with the Galaxy S25 series. The program is available in Germany, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The new version introduces significant enhancements to the operating system. In such, One UI 8 beta reveals that Samsung has added a highly useful filtering feature to the My Files app.

One UI 8 allows better file filtering

Sources have revealed that Samsung has added a new feature to the My Files app in the One UI 8 beta update. Shared screenshots show that users can now filter their downloaded files based on the app they used to download them.

With the new filtering feature, users will see a filter bar at the bottom of the screen when they open the Downloads folder. For instance, they will be able to easily filter downloaded files by apps such as ‘All,’ ‘Slack,’ ‘Chrome,’ and ‘Gmail.’

This appears to be a useful feature, especially for managing files downloaded from different apps that can clutter up a device. Unless there are any last-minute changes, Samsung is expected to include this feature in the stable release for all devices supported by the new version.

One UI 8 beta offers more than just these changes. According to sources, the beta version also includes improvements to features like split-screen multitasking and Secure Folder.

Stable One UI 8 update may arrive earlier than expected

Samsung rolls out operating system updates alongside its flagship Galaxy S series. Specifically, the Galaxy S25 launched with One UI 7, the S23 with One UI 6, and the S22 series with One UI 5. However, things seem poised to change significantly this year.

For the first time, Samsung is focusing its Android updates on foldable devices. Samsung will launch the stable One UI 8 update together with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. The company will unveil these models at the Galaxy Unpacked event in early July.

Finally, the beta program initially applies only to the Galaxy S25 models. However, we expect this to change soon. Samsung will likely add more devices to the beta testing and plans to expand the number of supported countries.
