If the long wait for One UI 7 (based on Android 15) left a bad taste in your mouth, well, Samsung aims to launch One UI 8 much faster.
Today, Google confirmed that Android 16 would launch next month, with updates from Samsung and other partners happening soon after. In fact, the first beta could happen as soon as the end of this month.
This means that the One UI 8 beta program is likely going to be pretty short, especially compared to the One UI 7 beta program. It took Samsung nearly eight months to start rolling out One UI 7. Now, to be fair, it was a pretty large update for Samsung, with loads of elements being redesigned.
Samsung will likely start with the Galaxy S25 series
Samsung is likely to start the update with the Galaxy S25 series, then move onto the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6. Not a surprise, considering One UI 8 could end up launching before the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7.
What’s going to be very interesting when it comes to Samsung is how they will integrate Google’s new Material 3 Expressive. I’m betting they won’t do much with that, since they just redesigned much of their OS with One UI 7. Samsung’s apps generally follow Samsung’s own design, instead of Google’s.
Of course, there are plenty of other great features in Android 16, like Live Updates. This is a personal favorite of mine because it is so similar to Live Activities on iOS. This makes it easier to track your food order, your Uber, and a ton of other things. Of course, we will need to wait for developers to add support to their app, though.
But One UI 8 his appening this summer is definitely great news for Samsung fans.
