NYC grandfather, 77, run over and killed by own car during argument with another driver over parking space: sources – New York Post

A 77-year-old grandfather was killed after being run over by his own car during an argument with another motorist over a parking spot in Brooklyn on Thursday, cops and law enforcement sources said.

Tragedy struck as Iosif Lontsman got out of his Subaru Forester to confront a 43-year-old woman in a Nissan Altima about the parking space at Avenue W and Ocean Avenue in Sheepshead Bay around 4:30 p.m., authorities and sources said.

As Lontsman was exiting his car, which was left in drive, it started rolling forward, hitting him before coming to a stop when it struck the Nissan, police and the sources said.

The grandfather, who lived about a mile-and-a-half from the accident, was left pinned between the two cars, the NYPD said, citing a preliminary investigation.

Lontsman suffered severe trauma to his head and body and was unresponsive and unconscious when first responders reached the scene.

He was rushed to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn where he was pronounced dead.

Surveillance footage shows Lontsman get out of his vehicle to confront the other driver over the parking space, sources told The Post.

Lontsman’s grieving son, Mark, also said in an interview on Monday he was told by an NYPD official last week his father got into a dispute over a parking space.

“We all find that it’s just very hard to accept what is being told to us,” the son said.

No arrests have been made stemming from the incident.

Mark Lontsman, 50, said his father leaves behind two sons and two grandchildren, who are ages 12 and 7. When his now-late wife was in bad shape, Lontsman took care of her “until her last days” eight years ago.

“He was a person who was dedicated to his family,” Mark Lontsman said, describing his father as selfless.

“He was always doing stuff for his family and friends, for other people,” Mark Lontsman told The Post.

The family immigrated to the United States in 1989 from the old Soviet Union in hopes for a better life.

“It was a difficult life for all of us,” he said. “I was still a teenager, as was my brother, so my dad and my mom at the time, they worked to build a new life in this country.”
