Nothing Phone (1) May Not Use The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 After All

Pretty much everyone has been expecting the Nothing Phone (1) to use the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC, but that won’t happen, it seems. The Nothing Phone (1) appeared on Geekbench, and shared a different story.

The Nothing Phone (1) may not use the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC

So, what will it use, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1? Well, no. It will still be a mid-range smartphone, but with a different SoC. Geekbench claims that the Snapdragon 778G+ will be used instead of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1.

That is a really compelling mid-range chip, but it’s older and inferior to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. Some of you may find this disappointing, though as I said, it’s a really compelling mid-range processor.

The device appeared on Geekbench with the ‘Nothing A063’ model number, and it managed to score 797 points in the single-core test, and 2,803 in the multi-core test. Take these results with a grain of salt, though, as this is a pre-release unit.

The device will pack in 8GB of RAM

In any case, Geekbench also confirms that the device will ship with Android 12 out of the box, and that it will include 8GB of RAM. That may even be the only variant of the device, unless Nothing opts for a 6GB or 12GB RAM model, which is not as likely.

Now, it is worth noting that the phone will include the Nothing OS on top of Android 12. That OS will be close to stock Android, but with a Nothing Launcher included, and some additional customization, of course.

The device is expected to feature a 120Hz display, as hinted in Nothing’s recent video. 45W fast wired charging is also expected, while the device will include three cameras.

The Nothing Phone (1) will be sold through an invite system at first. That’s also something Nothing confirmed. We’re not entirely sure how will it work, though. The device will become official on July 12, and it’s seemingly not coming to the US.
