NORTH WEBSTER — Want to get the most out of your smartphone camera? Join professional photographer Wayne Richard Pope at the North Webster Community Public Library for a free basic smartphone photography class at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 9.

This informative session will teach you how to master your smartphone camera for sharper, better-exposed photos and more creative shots. Topics include improving your selfies, using the grid and level for stronger composition, capturing night scenes like the aurora borealis and the moon, scanning QR codes and exploring slow-motion and time-lapse video features.

Whether you’re snapping vacation pics or just want to up your Instagram game, this class will help you take your smartphone photography to the next level.

Weekly Library Events

The following activities are set to take place at North Webster Community Public Library. Attendees do not need to have a library card to participate in any of these events. All programs are free unless otherwise noted.

Adult Events

Discover your roots at the library’s genealogy club, Roots & Branches. This month’s meeting will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 4. This meeting will also be featuring a “Family Heirloom Show-and-Tell,” so bring in a photo of a family heirloom and share its story with the group. No registration required.

Get help troubleshooting your technology during Beginner Tech Time at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 6. Get one-on-one help with your laptop, smartphone or tablet. Register in advance by calling the library at (574) 834-7122.

Teen Events

Are you ready for summer? Join in at the library for a Teen Summer Reading Kick-off event at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 3. Students in grades 6-12 are invited to come hang out with friends, play outdoor games and enjoy a variety of snacks while basking in the summer sun on the library’s outdoor patio. Teens will also be able to paint their own tote bag and take home a free book.

Children’s Events

Kids Block Play Party will be happening at 1 p.m. Monday, June 2. The Purdue Extension will be bringing a variety of blocks for kids and families to enjoy a time of building and playing together.

NWCPL will be hosting the Big Bang Bubble Show at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 4. Learn the science behind bubbles, plus enjoy demonstrations of a wide variety of bubble tricks and feats. Join in on the lawn afterwards for outdoor bubble stations and some fun hands-on bubble play, weather permitting.

Learn how to make fun fruit and vegetable snacks during the Know Your Neighbor program at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 5. Chef Sherrie will be sharing her experiences as a professional caterer, plus teaching a fun, interactive cooking class for the whole family.

Make moon sand and more at Friday Fun Day at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 6. A variety of outdoor activities will be provided for the whole family.

Kid-Leidoscope Art will be happening at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 7. Come use interesting tools and materials to create — no instructions or steps to follow. Enjoy the experiment and take home the unique results.
