North Platte High School hosts their first ever Car Show Fundraiser to help raise money for a new part – KNOP

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – North Platte High School Transportation Department held its first-ever Car Show on Saturday.

Fifty-seven people registered their cars for the event. The cars ranged from drop-tops to monster trucks, just to name a few.

“We’re fundraising for a new solvent tank to get away from the old mineral Spirit Solvent to go to an Aqueous. The fumes of the old solvent tanks, the EPA, and new shops doesn’t allow it; we want to follow the guidelines,” said Automotive instructor Johnny Zogg. “And we want to have the kids be able to use the stuff that they are going to leave the shop here and the school and use in the real world.”

Zogg said the solvent tank they want to purchase is about four feet wide and three feet deep. He said it will cost around $3,900.

“It heats water to about 140 degrees,” Zogg said. “You put some detergent in there, soak the part in there, and that hot water with the detergent loosens up all the grease, grime, and everything else on the parts that need cleaning. You can scrub them free pretty easily versus using solvent-based products, which have fumes that are not great to inhale for a long time.”

Out of the 57 cars registered, four were winners.
