NJ Transit price hike: What to know about rates going up on July 1
NJ Transit’s board unanimously approved a fare increase of 15% on July 1 and 3% every year after that.
New Jersey Transit will be implementing a new policy regarding one-way tickets and Flexpass effective July 1, according to an announcement from the company.
Here are the details of the updated policy.
One-way tickets
Starting on Monday, July 1 all NJ Transit one-way tickets, including both printed and digital, will have a 30-day expiration period. Tickets will remain valid for 30 days after and including the date of purchase.
All one-way tickets purchased before July 1 will expire on July 31 regardless of the original date of purchase.
Flexpass
Flexpass, which provides 20 one-way tickets between one origin and one destination station at a 20% discount will be discontinued on July 1. The last date to purchase a Flexpass will be June 30.
Flexpass is valid for 30 days from and including the date of purchase.
There will be no changes to the existing refund policy, which currently states that NJ Transit does not issue refunds for one-way tickets, round-trip tickets or Flexpass purchases.
“We understand this change may require adjustments, and we are here to assist you,” says NJ Transit. “Thank you for choosing NJ Transit. We appreciate your cooperation as we implement this new policy.”
