The district has selected new instructional materials for the following courses:
- Kindergarten-fifth grade science
- Sixth-eighth grade science
- Biology and honors biology
- Chemistry and honors chemistry
- Environmental systems
- Aquatic science
- Physics
- Integrated physics and chemistry
- Kindergarten-fifth grade technology applications
The $352,152 in materials will be funded using the district’s Instructional Materials and Technology Allotment, according to district information.
The background
In the fall, LHISD’s Science Instructional Materials Selection Committee began reviewing new materials adopted by the State Board of Education for the 2024-25 school year. In November, the SBOE approved new materials in kindergarten-12th grade science, kindergarten-eighth grade technology applications, high school financial literacy and economics, and some career and technical education courses, according to the Texas Education Agency.
Community members could provide their feedback on kindergarten-12th grade science materials through two events held in late January and an online forum. The district received feedback from almost 30 elementary and middle school teachers for K-8 science classes, according to district information.
