I’m a car dealer… question to ask to figure out whether you’re at a good or bad dealership – it could save you £100s

A TOP car dealer has revealed the golden question to ask that could save you hundreds when negotiating a used car.

The answer you get can determine whether you are at a good or a bad dealership.

US-based Kenny, who goes by @kennycompcars on TikTok revealed that the key is asking if your used car dealer is a member of their state association.

“While not foolproof, being a member of the state IADA [Independent Automobile Dealers Association] is a pretty good indication that the dealer cares about their business and their customers,” he said.

In the UK, the IADA could be equivalent to the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA), which represents franchised car and commercial vehicle dealers in the UK.

Kenny went on to explain that associations like the IADA help dealers get representation with legislation.

He added: “They also teach us how to legally and ethically do business and sell cars to you [customers]

“They give us classes on how to protect your data, how to keep your identity from being stolen from our dealership.

“So they’re there not only for the dealer but for the consumer as well.

If your used car dealer is not a member of their state IADA, there can only be a couple reasons for it, Kenny expained.

The first reason is that they probably don’t know there’s an association out there “specially made for the betterment of their business and their industry”.

Kenny continued: “The second reason is that they do not care.

I bought a Kia Rio for £350… my car-buying hack makes me £100s – but then I saw something I’d never seen before

“They do not care about the reputation of their dealership, about their customers, about the new laws coming into the industry, because they’re not gonna do business ethically anyway.”

The valuable tip saw users thanking Kenny on social media.

One person wrote: Good info to know

Another added: “I know! it’s like the place I blew a new truck last week and I still bought one but they had me to finish it off.”

It comes after another car dealer revealed five things people like him don’t want you to know because they get you money off your motor.

Ray Shefska, who has spent more than four decades in the industry, urged drivers to tool up with vital knowledge in order to get a better deal.

In a YouTube video with his son Zach, Ray took viewers through a simple five-step process to slashing the price of their next vehicles.

He emphasised that the most important thing is to do your homework before you even set foot in the dealership.

Make sure to research the particular car you are targeting in-depth, which you can often do through a number of free online services.

This can even get you a price below the car’s RRP, according to Ray.
