In the past few years, Google has enhanced the online shopping experience in Google Search with various new features. For some, the Shopping tab inside Google Search has become a one-stop shop for searching and buying things online. However, consumers sometimes miss out on the biggest discounts on products online. Now, at the I/O 2025 event, the search titan has debuted an AI solution to online buyers’ problems in the form of AI Mode. Google has introduced a new “agentic checkout” feature that will help you easily search and buy products at a price that fits your budget.
Since the launch of AI Mode in March, Google has consistently improved the online shopping experience by integrating the mode with its existing shopping features. The feature utilises Google’s vast Shopping Graph to intelligently discover products based on context and user queries. Essentially, Google is merging the AI Mode and the Shopping tab, bringing its suite of shopping features directly into AI Mode.
Shopping in Google’s latest AI Mode integrates Gemini’s functionalities into its existing online shopping features. This allows consumers to use conversational phrases to search for the perfect product. Once the users find the correct product, they can set the size, color, and price they can afford.
Gemini combines forces with the Shopping Graph, which now includes more than 50 billion product listings sourced from major brands and indie shops. The company updates these listings every hour to provide relevant and current search results, ensuring consumers receive the latest pricing, discounts, and item availability.
Google Search’s AI Mode now includes a handy “agentic checkout” feature
Google Search’s AI Mode includes an “agentic checkout” feature, which allows consumers to track prices and automatically buy items when they meet the desired price point. Using the feature, users can track the price of any product list and set a desired price for it. If and when the item’s price drops to or below your specified price, Google Search’s agentic checkout feature will send a price drop notification to your device.
Once you give consent, the AI Mode will go to the online seller’s website, add the product and the desired quantity to your cart. Then it can proceed to automatically buy the items on your behalf using Google Pay.
Now you can also try on clothing in Google’s virtual fitting room
Furthermore, now you can try clothes online using Google’s new virtual try-on technology. Google has powered it with a custom photo generation mode made for fashion that accounts for body type, fabrics, and the overall nuances of clothing. You can simply upload a photo of yourself and try on clothes in Google’s virtual fitting room from the items in Google’s Shopping Graph. Besides, you can also save the look or share it with friends.
Google will start rolling out the new shopping features to the AI Mode in the US first in the coming months. The company has already rolled out the new try-on experience in Search Labs in the US. We can expect a wider rollout in more regions in the coming months, so stay tuned. In the meantime, check out all our coverage about the latest Google I/O event right here.
