Google is finally launching its much-awaited ‘Magic’ button for Google TV. Google TV is announcing its customizable “Magic” button, as rumored and leaked. Walmart’s new Onn 4K Pro streaming box, released this week, is the first device to feature this button on its remote. This comes after a long wait since the button was first spotted in 2021 in a Chromecast software build.
The button provides easy access to various streaming features, allowing users to navigate through apps and content with just a single press. But that’s not all – a new Chromecast with Google TV is also in the works, and it’s reported to come with the same “magic” button on its remote.
However, Google has not yet announced the launch date for either device. The only thing confirmed is that the “magic” button will soon become a part of Google TV’s streaming experience and you won’t have to wait much longer.
How does the ‘Magic’ button work?
It’s simple – you can set the star button to either open an app or switch inputs. And when we say any app, we mean it. The button responds to your preferences and opens any app installed on your device. No more scrolling through menus or searching for the right app – just one press of the magic button and you’re there.
But what about changing inputs? Not a problem. The first time you press the Star button, you must set up an IR signal to work with your TV. After you’ve done this, pressing the button will automatically switch inputs. No more fumbling with multiple remotes or struggling to find the input button on your old remote – the solution is right at your fingertips.
And the best part? It’s completely customizable. You can choose which function the button performs based on your personal preferences. That means you can have quick access to your favorite streaming app or seamlessly switch between gaming consoles – all with one simple button.
To change the function of the Magic button, navigate to Settings > Remote & Accessories > Setup remote buttons > Customize Button. From there, you can choose between “Open app” or “Switch inputs” for the star button.
