Google Just Turned YouTube Shorts Into a Searchable Wonderland

Google Lens seems to be on the way to YouTube Shorts. Google announced this as part of beta testing, so it is official. Integrating Google Lens in YouTube shorts will allow you to search for more information about what you see in the clip that is currently running.

Google Lens arrives to YouTube Shorts… for beta testers

If you’re a beta tester, you should get this feature “this week”. Once it is enabled, you can access it by pausing the video, selecting Lens from the top menu, and then tapping or highlighting an element in the video you’d like to know more about.

Google will dig up more information for you and provide you with the results on top of the Short that is running. It is noted that advertisements won’t be shown in the results during the test phase. That will almost certainly change the moment it hits the stable channel, though.

Google has also noted that the “Lens experience isn’t available for Shorts with YouTube Shopping affiliate links or with paid product promotions.”

Both Android and iOS apps are getting Google Lens, as expected

In case you’re wondering, yes, this feature will be available for both Android and iOS apps. There is also a translate button included once you activate Google Lens, even in beta.

What we don’t know is how long it will take for Google to bring this over to the stable channel. The feature does seem to be quite functional already, so the company is probably doing some last-minute tests, is all.

If we had to guess, we’d say that it won’t take long for Google to push it over to everyone. Well, unless some unforeseen circumstances arise, of course, which is always a possibility. If you’d like to know more about the feature, check out Google’s official announcement.
