Google Gemini App Soars to 400 Million Monthly Users

Google has just kicked off its highly anticipated I/O 2025 event. The company is expected to make some big announcements and tease new features in development for its products. Currently, one of Google’s main services is Gemini, its AI-powered chatbot accessible both from the web and as a native voice assistant on Android. Now, Google CEO Sundar Pichai has confirmed that Gemini boasts a whopping 400 million monthly active users.

If you’re following the tech industry, you probably know that Google shifted its focus to artificial intelligence a while ago. It’s not that AI is now its main product—its search engine and AdTech remain in command—but it’s close. You can currently find AI-powered features integrated throughout the company’s catalog. Gemini is one of the services that has improved the most in recent years, having started off on a bumpy ride and now seeking to overtake ChatGPT in the segment.

400 million monthly active users for the Gemini app

While Google still lags behind OpenAI’s AI chatbot in certain areas, it has one advantage that OpenAI doesn’t: user base. A few months ago, Google effectively replaced the classic Google Assistant on Android with Gemini. The latter offers a better user experience by not limiting people to rigid voice commands. The power of Gemini’s AI models allows Google’s chatbot to understand prompts in a much more natural language. “Live” is the ultimate example of Gemini’s advanced conversational capabilities.

This, along with the multiple improvements Gemini has received, has led to 400 million people using it monthly. Note that Google mentioned “active” users. This means not just registered accounts, but people who actually use Gemini with some frequency. And it’s no wonder, since the assistant facilitates access to multiple functions and automates tasks, among many other possibilities. What began as a curious AI-powered experiment unable to replace the classic Assistant ended up taking its place.

Google I/O 2025 is still ongoing, and we’ll likely have news related to Gemini. Stay tuned for all the latest!
