Ever since its debut in February last year, Google has continuously added more and more features to the Gemini chatbot. The company is still working on offering Gemini some interesting quality-of-life improvements. Soon, the tech giant could add the Google Search app’s autocomplete feature to the Gemini app for Android devices. Folks over at Android Authority have found the presence of this feature in an APK teardown of the Google app v16.21.5.5 beta version.
Google Search’s time-saving autocomplete feature may be coming to Gemini
According to the source, Gemini for Android could get Google Search’s autocomplete functionality, which will save your time as you can avoid typing the remaining text of your query. The predictive suggestions in the AI assistant will work much like Google Search’s classic autocomplete feature.
However, as of now, it seems to work only in new conversations with the Gemini chatbot in the Android app. As you can see in the video, the functionality doesn’t work when asking further queries in an existing conversation. Furthermore, the autocomplete suggestions don’t appear in the Gemini overlay. However, this could change if and when the company officially adds this feature to Gemini.
Gemini’s autocomplete capability works similarly to Google Search
As you can see in the demo video above, Gemini’s autocomplete feature works the same as Google Search. As you type a few characters, the functionality will show you multiple queries. Similar to the autocomplete feature in Google Search, the terms suggested by Gemini get more accurate as you keep typing.
As of now, it’s not clear when Google will launch the new functionality for the Gemini app. However, since the feature is alive and well in the latest beta version of the Google app, we can expect a launch in a matter of days if not weeks. We will inform you as soon as this functionality becomes available, so watch this space for regular updates.
