Samsung’s Health Monitor app’s sleep apnea feature received De Novo authorization from the US Food and Drug Administration in February last year. Later, in 2024, the company rolled out the functionality to a handful of Galaxy Watches in the USA. Since then, the Galaxy Watch’s sleep apnea feature has been available in multiple regions. The brand has now expanded the functionality’s availability to more countries.
Samsung makes the Galaxy Watch’s sleep apnea feature available in 36 more regions
Samsung has announced that the Galaxy Watch’s sleep apnea feature is now available in 34 European countries, Australia, and Singapore. In total, the company is now offering this functionality in a total of 70 countries across the globe.
Samsung revealed that the sleep apnea feature received the CE (Conformité Européenne/European Conformity) label for the European Economic Area. It allowed the brand to roll out the functionality to 34 more countries across the continent.
Samsung has designed the feature to enhance sleep health awareness
The Korean tech giant has offered the feature as a supplementary tool, which utilizes the Samsung Health app and the BioActive Sensor of the Galaxy Watch to find signs of obstructive sleep apnea. Samsung says that it has designed the functionality to improve sleep health awareness by monitoring signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea.
It looks for significant disruptions in breathing over a two-night monitoring period. If the feature detects a pattern, the Health Monitor app can inform the Galaxy Watch users of potential sleep apnea problems and advise them to seek the expertise of a health professional. Sleep apnea can lead to restless nights and create other serious health problems. Detecting it can be tricky, but Samsung’s Galaxy Watches can help with it.
That said, Samsung’s sleep apnea feature is available on the Galaxy Watch 4 series and later devices running Wear OS 5.0 or later. Additionally, you must connect it to a Galaxy smartphone that runs Android 12 or higher. Samsung could announce some upgrades for the feature with the upcoming Galaxy Watch 8 series of devices. The company could launch them at the Unpacked event next month.
