Galaxy S24 Ultra's next camera update may have been delayed

Samsung‘s Galaxy S24 phones feature an amazing camera system, but it isn’t perfect. There is still plenty of room for improvement. The company has already pushed two camera-improving software updates to the phones. A third one was expected soon but it may have been delayed. A tipster says the next camera update for the Galaxy S24 Ultra, and likely the other two models, won’t arrive before June.

Galaxy S24 Ultra to get the next camera update in June

Launched in mid-January, Samsung has rolled out three updates to the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra in three months. Two of them addressed various camera shortcomings, including issues related to low-light photography, white balance, exposure, text clarity in zoom shots, and more. However, the new Samsung flagships still leave a lot to be desired with their camera performances.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra, which is supposed to be one of the best camera phones of 2024, struggles to even outperform its predecessor in some areas. Zoom shots from the phone are inconsistent—they look better at certain zoom levels but quickly drop in quality at others. It isn’t like the quality deteriorates as we zoom in. Sometimes, images captured at a higher magnification level look better than the lower ones.

As suggested by X tipster Ice Universe, Samsung’s camera zoom algorithm appears flawed. The previous updates have done little to improve it. The company is now working on another update for the Galaxy S24 series to improve the zoom algorithm and other camera imperfections. It was initially expected to arrive in April or May but Ice Universe says Samsung has delayed it at least until June.

The source didn’t reveal the reason behind this delay. They also didn’t specify whether the delay is global or if it only impacts the Galaxy S24 trio in their home country China. Chinese units often receive new updates later than the rest of the world. Hopefully, we will get a clarification soon. Samsung sometimes takes to official community forums to announce upcoming updates for its flagships.

Older models are getting the One UI 6.1 update

Samsung’s One UI 6.1 rollout could have delayed the next camera update for the Galaxy S24 series. The company has several devices lined up for the One UI 6.1 update next month. The Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Z Fold 4, and Galaxy Z Flip 4 should get priority. Samsung has already updated the Galaxy S23 series and newer foldables. One UI 6.1 will also roll out to 2021 flagships and a few recent mid-range models.
