CMF, the sub-brand of Nothing, is a London-based consumer technology brand that is known for its stylish handsets that come in a unique design and colours. Its phones are well-specced with a nice display, competent cameras and good battery life. Also, the mid-range price points are a key determinant for their growing market appeal.
Cut to present. Nothing has everything even better in its latest product, CMF Phone 2 Pro. It is slim and lightweight and a good all-rounder phone. However, don’t look for big hardware changes with the Phone 2 Pro compared to last year’s CMF Phone 1. Both the devices have a fun modular design; you get the Accessory Point screw in the bottom-right corner, along with the exposed screws across the back panel. You get a clean, fresh and stylish appearance in the new iteration.
At 7.8mm and weighing just 185g, Phone 2 Pro is the slimmest and lightest phone from Nothing till date. It is 5% thinner than CMF Phone 1. The handset comes in an elegant body with an aluminum camera surround. There is increased water durability with IP54 — CMF Phone 1 was IP52. The Essential Key, first introduced in the Phone (3a) series has arrived here too. Essentially, this allows you to effortlessly grab photos, record your screen, and capture your voice — all in one place.
Switched on, you get a large and bright 6.77-inch FHD+ flexible AMOLED display that supports 10-bit colour that greatly enhances colour accuracy. The display is comparable to the ones on pricier flagship models and is certainly one of the best screens in this price bracket. HDR photography takes colouration and vibrancy up a level, while Ultra HDR captures enhance the brightness of highlights by 6 to 8 times, increasing peak brightness to 3000 nits. Put simply, there’s no more need to squint or run towards the shade when you’re taking snaps under the sun.
The Phone 2 Pro features an advanced three-camera system, complete with a 50MP main camera that is said to be the largest sensor in its segment. For faraway scenes, the 50MP telephoto lens offers 2x optical zoom and up to 20x Ultra Zoom. The 8MP ultra-wide camera provides an expansive field of view, perfect for everything from landscapes to skylines, while the 16MP front camera is ready to snap your sharpest selfies. The cameras are reliable with good imaging output.
The MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Pro 5G processor does more than just help the Phone 2 Pro last longer on a charge. It is smooth and fast with good multitasking, and day-to-day performance is adequate. Gaming is great even on graphics-intensive titles. There are two storage options – 128GB and 256GB, expandable up to 2TB. With a 5000mAh battery, there is enough juice in the handset to last two days of moderate use.
Nothing has made a splash in the smartphone once again with its new mid-range phone that impresses with its unique design, good build quality and capable cameras. The Phone 2 Pro feels and performs like an advanced and dependable device, a complete package in all aspects.
