Civic workers trained to drive e-autos – The Times of India

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Corporation is training 15 women pourakarmikas in driving e-autorickshaws. In a month, these women are likely to start collecting garbage using e-autorickshaws. Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, MCC has been given 24 e-autorickshaws, 107 hydraulic jeep tippers, 30 tipper trucks, and 16 compactors for waste collection. MCC commissioner Anand CL said he recently read a report about a woman operating autorickshaws in the city. “This inspired me to select women pourakarmikas as drivers for these vehicles. Through this, we want to empower these women and help them raise their confidence. The MCC intends to train more women pourakarmikas in the operation of e-autorickshaws in the future,” he said.It is learnt that these women will be operating the autorickshaws on narrow roads of the city, where jeep tippers cannot go. Initially, two women will be operating these vehicles. As they get used to it and become confident, these women will be allowed to operate independently. tnn
