Apple TV+ has released the first teaser trailer for Chief of War, an epic new historical drama starring, co-created, and executive produced by Jason Momoa.

The nine-episode series, based on true events and told from an indigenous Hawaiian perspective, follows Momoa’s character, Ka’iana, a legendary warrior. Set in the late 18th century, the narrative focuses on his arduous journey to unify the Hawaiian Islands before the encroaching threat of Western colonization fundamentally changes their destiny. This is a passion project for Momoa and co-creator Thomas Pa’a Sibbett, who share native Hawaiian heritage.

The teaser showcases breathtaking visuals of the Hawaiian islands, intense battle sequences, and a predominantly Polynesian cast, including Luciane Buchanan, Temuera Morrison, and Cliff Curtis. The series is set to make its global debut on Apple TV+ with its first two episodes on Friday, August 1, 2025, with new episodes following weekly through September 19. Momoa himself directs the season finale, promising a deeply personal and visually stunning conclusion to this significant historical narrative.
