Apple settlement: Some iPhone 7 users can get up to $349 – MassLive.com

Eligible iPhone users have until next month to claim their share of money tied to a $35 million class action lawsuit against Apple, according to a settlement website.

If you owned an iPhone 7 and/or iPhone 7 Plus between Sept. 16, 2016, and Jan. 3, 2023, and experienced audio issues due to the “audio IC” chip, and paid for Apple to repair the device, you may be eligible for compensation, according to the settlement website.

Eligible iPhone users have until June 3 to sign up for a settlement payment, according to the settlement website. However, Apple, any entity that Apple has a controlling interest in and Apple employees are excluded from the settlement. Also excluded from the settlement are judicial officers who are assigned to this case along with their staff and immediate families.

“Apple denies that the devices had such issues and denies all allegations of wrongdoing,” according to the settlement website.

How do I know that I am eligible for a settlement payment?

If your issuer was reflected in Apple’s records as Sound-Speaker, Sound-Microphone, Sound–Receiver, Unexpected Restart / Shutdown, or Power On–Device Unresponsive (“Covered Issues”), including those who paid Apple out of pocket for repairs or replacements for covered issues, you may be entitled to compensation, according to the settlement website.

According to the settlement website, if you still don’t know if you are eligible for a settlement payment you can call a toll-free number at 1-833-633-0343, or write to the Tabak v. Apple Class Action Administrator located at 1650 Arch St., Suite 2210, Philadelphia, PA 19103, for more information.

How do I apply to get the settlement money?

If you got a notice by email or postcard that stated Apple has determined that you might be a member of the settlement class, then you have to notify the Settlement Administrator if you’d like to receive the money via electronic check, ACH transfer or physical check by June 3, according to the settlement website.

Eligible iPhone users can submit their payment information to the settlement website’s Select Payment page, or via mail to Tabak v. Apple Class Action Administrator located at 1650 Arch St., Suite 2210, Philadelphia, PA 19103, according to the settlement website.

“You must submit payment information in order to receive a Class Payment,” according to the settlement website. “If you do not elect a payment method and provide your payment information, you will remain in the Settlement Class and forego receiving a Class Payment and will waive your right to sue Apple for the Covered Issues in the future.”

How much settlement money will I get?

Eligible iPhone 7 users who paid out of pocket for repairs or replacements for covered issues and did not opt out of the settlement claim can get at least $50 and no more than $349, according to the settlement website. Those who did report issues with their iPhone to Apple, but didn’t pay out of pocket for repairs or replacements for covered issues will get a payment of $125.
