iOS 19 will not be unveiled until June, but Apple today previewed two CarPlay features that will be coming with the software update.
Ahead of Global Accessibility Awareness Day on Thursday, Apple has announced new accessibility features coming later this year. These features are expected to debut across iOS 19, iPadOS 19, macOS 16, watchOS 12, and visionOS 3, which will be unveiled during the WWDC 2025 keynote on Monday, June 9. Following months of beta testing, the software updates should be released in September, bringing the features to the masses.
For CarPlay, this includes support for the Large Text option that has long existed on iPhones.
Apple is also expanding the Sound Recognition feature for drivers or passengers who are deaf or hard of hearing. CarPlay will be able to provide a notification if it hears a crying baby inside the vehicle, and it will also be able to alert users to sounds outside the vehicle, such as horns and sirens on police cars, ambulances, or fire trucks.
Sound Recognition must be turned on in the Settings app, under Accessibility.
We will have to wait until WWDC to learn about new CarPlay features that go beyond accessibility, but in the meantime this provides an early glimpse.
