There is a bug in the latest version of WhatsApp that is stopping users from sending video messages on WhatsApp. Reddit user u/EnderVamp posted a complaint on the WhatsApp subreddit about WhatsApp’s inability to send video messages on Android. Whenever you try to send a video to someone on WhatsApp, you’ll see a pop-up message that reads, “Can’t send this video. Choose a different video and try again.”
The bug seems to affect Android Users on the WhatsApp Beta
9To5Google reproduced the bug and experienced the same annoying messages as the Reddit user. This bug seems to affect just video files, and it doesn’t impact other file formats. According to their findings, attempting to send a video that you shot or downloaded locally on your Android device will trigger the bug. MOV video files shot on iOS devices can be forwarded without triggering the bug.
Although the Reddit user who reported the bug was on an Android device, it is unclear if this affects all Android devices or just some brands, or how widespread the bug is. Bugs in mobile apps can happen for many reasons like mistakes in programming, incompatible operating systems, or other factors. In this case, the Reddit user was using a beta version of WhatsApp so this could be a contributing factor.
There is a temporary fix
For users experiencing this bug, a temporary solution is to downgrade your WhatsApp to version 2.23.8.85. Since Google Playstore does not allow you to roll back to a previous version of an application, you will have to look for the specific version from external sources like APK Mirror.
If you prefer not to downgrade, you’ll need to wait for WhatsApp to release a fix. WhatsApp recently underwent its largest User Interface (UI) overhaul on Android. Its engineering team is known for promptly addressing and resolving bugs and security concerns.
