Pedestrian killed after stepping in path of 18-wheeler hauling cars in Angelina County – KTRE

BURKE, Texas (KTRE) – At 1 p.m. Friday, May 30, the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on Hwy 59 in Burke.

DPS troopers and sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene, which was in the area south of Stringer Road. They found the pedestrian’s body in the highway.  He was identified as Nathaniel Jared Yinger, 40, of Westminster, Maryland. According to Sheriff Tom Selman, it appeared that Yinger left the road in a yellow Honda Fit in the Hwy 59/Diboll Relief Route construction zone and became stuck just off to the left of the northbound lanes of traffic.

Selman said that evidence from the scene indicated that Barry exited the median where his car was stuck on foot, and ran into the inside northbound traffic lane directly in the path of a Kenworth truck tractor/semi-trailer combination transporting a load of passenger cars.  He was struck and died at the scene.

Troopers and deputies conducted an on-scene investigation and Judge Rodney Cheshire, Justice of the Peace Precinct Four of Diboll pronounced Yinger deceased.  In a joint investigation, troopers worked the scene and sheriff’s deputies are following up by conducting an in-depth inquiry into what may have caused Yinger to make the decision to put himself out in the highway in front of the 18-wheeler, Selman said.

DPS troopers inspected the semi-truck, found no violations and no charges are anticipated in the case.
