Telegram and Elon Musk’s xAI company have announced a partnership to bring the Grok AI chatbot to the instant messaging platform. Pavel Durov, founder and CEO of Telegram, has confirmed the information via posts on both X and Telegram. Elon Musk’s xAI will incorporate its artificial intelligence tools into Telegram through the newly formed partnership.
Elon Musk’s xAI is paying Telegram $300 million to adopt Grok
Telegram CEO Durov said the partnership, which is due to last a year, would see the encrypted messaging platform receive $300 million in cash and equity from xAI. Furthermore, xAI will provide Telegram with half of the revenue from subscriptions sold through its platform.
According to Pavel, Telegram has entered into a one-year partnership to offer xAI’s Grok chatbot to its billion+ users and integrate it across all the apps from the company. This move not only offers users cutting-edge AI technology but also improves Telegram’s financial position.
Grok AI-based features are coming to Telegram later this year
Durov has also shared a video clip teasing all the Grok AI-powered features coming to Telegram, starting in June 2025. Telegram conversations will pin the Grok AI by default for all users of the messaging platform, allowing instant access. Furthermore, users will also be able to access it via Telegram search.
Thanks to the partnership with Elon Musk’s xAI, Telegram will soon offer AI features like Smart Text Edition. It should allow users to enhance, expand, or change the tone of the typed messages. It will have the Chat Summaries feature that will allow Telegram users to summarize long-form messages.
Also, there’s a document summarization feature that should allow users to summarize large documents on the go. The other Grok AI-powered features coming to Telegram include Link Insights, Fact Check, instant sticker generation, and avatar creation for exciting display pictures of users.
As of now, it remains unclear whether all the mentioned AI features will be available for free to all Telegram users. Telegram might reserve some of these functionalities for its premium subscribers.
